Selenite Candleholder

Selenite Candleholder

Natural selenite forms a wonderful tea light candleholder in this skyscraper form.  Selenite is a form of the mineral gypsum.  Unique in that it is transparent, selenite can also form as single crystals, twinned crystals, desert roses, and fibrous satin spar (often seen as blades and skyscrapers as in this candleholder).  Selenite is an evaporite mineral which it is formed in large deposits when water bodies such as ponds, seas, and lakes evaporate and leave the mineral behind.  All gypsum varieties, including selenite, are very soft, with a Mohs hardness of 2 on the scale of 1 to 10.  In fact, selenite is so soft that you can scratch it with your fingernail.

Selenite can be found in several colors including white, light brown, yellow and pink as well as colorless.  All selenite has a white streak and pearly luster.  One unique deposit, Cave of Swords in Mexico, has huge selenite crystals which can be as long as six feet and look sword-like.  Our selenite candleholders are for use indoors or outdoors.  Tea light candle included. Sizes and shapes of the candleholders vary but are typically 3-4” high and 3-4” diameter. Get your selenite today!
